Tell us about yourself!
A: I’m 33 years old. I work full time as an Accounting and HR Director and I’m married with 2 children. I have a 2 year old daughter and a 5.5 year old son. My husband and I both work out religiously and put our health and fitness at the forefront of our lives. We both get up at 4:30 every morning to make sure we get our workout in before work. Running was my first love. It’s what brought me into the fitness world and that was over 10 years ago. Because we have 2 kids who are asleep at this time I’ve had to trade in my gym membership for at home workouts so one of us can be home while the other goes to the gym. It’s pretty cool to see what you can do with your workouts when you have to get creative 😉
How did you find Studio?
During one of my early mornings when I was half asleep and procrastinating starting my workout I was scrolling instagram and saw an ad for it. I had almost talked myself out of working out that morning because I was sleepy and unmotivated. I was in need of a new “why” and was pondering the idea of starting the Nike training program as a way to start running more again. I was about to just say forget it and skip the workout when I saw the ad for the app. Instead I downloaded it not expecting much as with other apps. Shocker! That’s what motivated me to workout that day and every day since then. I was motivated and excited to have found something of “my own” and to excite me to run again.
How would you describe how you feel after class?
Like I’m on top of the world and strong enough to take on anything. I feel strong yet peaceful because I’ve accomplished what most days (kids aside) is the best part of my day.
How does Studio make you better on and off the treadmill (or outdoor run)?
Studio makes me better because it allows me to do what I love and hold on to a piece of myself. As a mom and a wife it’s easy to get caught up in the responsibilities that come with those roles and forget about who I am and what love to do and what I’m capable of. We as people have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. We must love ourselves before we can love others. Studio allows me to put myself first for a short amount of time, challenge myself mentally and physically so that I love myself emotionally and others around me. I can be the best version of who I am when I put myself first just a little. I’m happier for my husband and my children and that energy radiates to those around me.
How is Studio different than any other workout?
It gives me something to look forward to every morning when my alarm goes off at 4:45. I feel like it’s a part of my life now even though I’ve been working out daily for 10 years. Because I’m running more I’m releasing more serotonin and endorphins which plays a major component in my food choices. It’s easier to fight food cravings and I find myself fueling my body with more nutrients versus junk.
Overall, how has Studio changed your lifestyle?
Here’s the best part for me…..I can do it at home while my babies are sleeping and not feel alone!!! I feel like I have a group to connect with because the instructors are so responsive and genuine yet I don’t even have to leave my house. The coaching is top notch and that’s key when motivating and pushing people to new heights.
Has Studio helped you through any challenges in your life?
Right now actually, I’m in the midst of losing my job. A company I’ve been with for 8 years. It’s terrifying and scary. I’m depressed and stressed every day while waiting for this change to take place. Typically during seasons of struggle working out takes a back seat due to depression taking over. Now that I have studio it’s giving me something positive to focus on where normally I would let the stress get me down and become unmotivated. I feel like I still have “something” when my life is turning upside down right now. I’m focusing heavily on my faith and letting go of everything negative. Studio is full of positive vibes and I absolutely soak it all in right now.
Is there something you couldn’t do before Studio that you can now tackle?
I can sprint at faster speeds for longer amounts of time. I used to stick to 20-40 second sprints only with zero incline because I lacked the motivation to push myself further than I thought I could. Now I’m running hills and sprinting faster. Ive also dropped 5% body fat in about 6 -8 weeks which for me is huge because I consider myself to be in decent shape and just accepted my body fat percent for what it was without really trying. I didn’t think it was possible without losing muscle mass in the process.
If you could describe your Studio experience in 3 words what would they be and why?
Exhilarating – Each run is so exciting, powerful, motivating that I finish with extreme runners high that keeps me excited all day and wanting more. Always looking forward to the next one!
Challenging – I LOVE how Studio will push me to go beyond my limits when I would normally stop because I’m tired. It challenges me to try new things like running on an incline which I used to hate.
Genuine – I sense the passion that Lisa, Aaron, and Justin bring to each of their workouts. They are fun and motivating but have a real passion for what they are doing. They are always so quick to respond and I love how they build relationships with their participants. To me that shows you’re in it for the right reasons and that speaks to me.
Anything else you want us to know about you?
Umm……I love chocolate chip cookies, gym clothes, and my first concert was Hanson ;)P.S I’m a tad bit ADD so Lisa, Aaron and Justin are my favorite instructors because they keep me from getting bored. Lisa’s music is on point!
